Blind Tasting of Washington Syrahs

Last night we held a blind tasting of Washington Syrahs from 2000 to 2004. Here are the results from the group.

1. 2000 Cayuse Coccinelle Vineyard, Walla Walla Valley

2. 2003 Chatter Creek Columbia Valley

3. 2004 McCrea Boushey Vineyard, Yakima Valley

4. 2000 Seven Hills Walla Walla Valley

5. 2004 Washington Hills Columbia Valley

6. 2003 Animale McIntire Vineyard, Yakima Valley

The top three wines were very close with only one point difference between them. Prices ranged from $11 to over $50. However, one wine not rated but deserving of praise was the 2004 Zander Syrah Rattlesnake Hills. It would certainly rank among my top picks.
