2005 Kistler Chardonnay McCrea Vineyard

20091101I tasted this splendid Kistler over a two day period. A typical but very nicely developed California Chardonnay. A bright golden color considering it is unfiltered and unfined which is apparent in the clarity. Aromas of butter gives way to tropical fruits of pineapple and banana. I could just sit and smell this wine and enjoy it. Make sure you allow it to warm up some if you’ve had this in the refrigerator. Very buttery and oaky on the palate which suggests that it could stand a few more years of cellaring. The finish is rather long with some minerals and a little heat.

If my friend, Steve, has any more of these, he really should cellar them for a few more years before bringing them out, especially when you consider the price tag on these bottles. The oak is very predominant and needs some time to become better integrated. Nonetheless, it’s still a very nice drinking wine and and one of the better Chardonnays that I’ve had in recent years.
