My good friend, James King, organized a wonderful winemaker dinner with Bill Owen from OS Winery (formerly Owen-Sullivan) at Le Gourmand in Ballard. Bill brought a nice selection of his wines and I finally got to taste his exquisite Petite Verdot that won a Double Gold at the Seattle Wine Awards.
(Left) Le Gourmand isn’t a large restaurant and our table of eleven took up about half the restaurant. Nearly half the members of our wine club showed up along with a few of their friends. (Right) Spinach, Radish and Spring Onion Soup finished with White Truffle Oil paired with a 2008 O•S Riesling Champoux Vineyard. |
(Left) House-made Pork Sausage with Merlot-Braised Cabbage paired with a 2005 O•S R3 (a blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc) and a 2006 O•S Red Wine. (Right) Sea Breeze Farm Osso Bucco with Cèpes and Cabernet-Pressings Sauce paired with 2005 Ulysses (a blend of 42% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 26% Cabernet Franc), a 2005 O•S BSH (a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Cabernet Franc and 17% Merlot), and a 2004 Savigny-Lavières Domaine Camus Bruchon. |
(Left) Salade Le Gourmand: Lettuces, Greens, and Edible Flowers in Blackwood Canyon Chardonnay Vinaigrette paired with 2006 O•S Petite Verdot and a 2008 O•S Elephant Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. (Right) The Montmorency Sour-Cherry Clafoutis with Aprium Coulis and Cherry Pit Ice Cream paired extremely well with the 2007 Sparkling Riesling Champoux Vineyard with 6% residual sugar. |
(Left) Five of the nine wines we had that evening. Bill brought plenty of wine that night but we still ordered the Savigny-Lavières, not that I’m complaining. (Right) Winemaker, Bill Owen, chef, Bruce Naftaly, and wine educator and event planner, James King. |
Many thanks to James for arranging this dinner from San Diego. That in itself is quite the feat. I think everyone had a great time and left at the end of the evening, feeling content, satisfied and hopefully not too inebriated. If you’re interested in having your own wine event, take a look at his web site and shoot him an email.
I’ve been following you on Twitter for a while, but this is the first time I have followed one of your links. Great blog site! Will be following more closely now.
Cheers,
Scott
