Backyard Barbecue with Top Chefs
After the meet & greet at the Murphy-Goode tasting room yesterday, I was invited to the Monday night event, a backyard barbecue at Hardy’s house with Top Chef finalists, Kevin Gillespie & Eli Kirshtein. Wow, did they deliver. The food was incredible as would be expected and I met and talked with the usual suspects and a few industry people new to me. But enough about the setting, here’s the food.
OMG! This was a feast. Along with lots of meat, there were all the necessary fixins for a real down-home southern barbecue, with enough veggies for even the vegetarians in our group to make a meal. Potato salad, fantastic coleslaw, a tasty cauliflower side, the best collard greens I’ve had in ages, and delicious cornbread. The question I had was, how much lard was used to make everything taste so great. I liked Dave Ready’s response, “Who cares?” Dave’s wife, Jennifer, will love that answer. 😉
Thanks to Eli & Kevin, the KJ chefs and Hardy for making this incredible barbecue possible. And to those of you attending tonight’s event, let the rest of us know what fantastic food they’re serving as a finale dinner. I saw an octopus in the kitchen last night being slowly cooked at 77°C and I’m curious what they’re going to do with that. Mmm. I’m sure it will be memorable.

Great blog! My sis (Jen Ready) told me about it and so glad she did. Looking forward to reading regularly.
Eric,
Thanks for coming and the write-up! What a great event!
The veggie food was awesome. Tater tots are a must at any party!
